What kind of projects does the KSWF fund?

Please review the Purpose and Mission Statement of the KSWF. Your application must be consistent with the Purpose and Mission Statement of the KSWF.

Does our agency have to be located in the Commonwealth of Kentucky?

Yes, the KSWF ONLY funds applications from agencies located in Kentucky.

Does our agency have to be a 501(c)(3) to apply for a grant?

Yes, your agency must be approved by the IRS as a tax-exempt charitable organization and you must supply us with a copy of your 501(c)(3) determination letter.

Can we apply for funds for a special or periodic funds appeal?

No, your application must be for expansion of existing programs or for new programming. We do not fund special or occasional funds appeals to support existing programming.

Can we apply to pay staff salaries for programs or for our program’s on-going operational expenses?

No, we do not fund agency/project salaries or on-going agency/project operational expenses.

Our agency is planning a major capital development. Can we apply for funds for this?

No, KSWF does not fund major capital expenses or projects.

We need help continuing our existing programs. Can we apply for funds to sustain our existing programs?

No, your application must be for expansion of existing programs or for new programming.

We have received a grant from KSWF in the past. How long do we have to wait before we can apply for a new grant?

The KSFW has two grant cycles per calendar year. One in the Spring and one in the Fall. You must wait a minimum of two (2) grant cycles from when you received the last KSWF grant to apply for a new grant. For example, if you received a grant in the Fall of 2017, you may not apply for a new grant until the Spring of 2019.

How often does the KSWF Foundation Board meet?

The KSWF Foundation board meets two times/year to review and approve grant applications. Board meetings are scheduled close to the time of the application deadline.

Do we have to submit a budget with our application?

Yes, your grant application must include BOTH an agency AND project budget.

Do we need to have a plan for how we will continue the project when we have expended funds from KSWF?

Yes, we will want to see a description of how you plan to sustain your program expansion or new programming after you have invested KSWF funds in starting it.

Do you accept applications from all over the Commonwealth of Kentucky?

Yes, we do consider applications from all parts of Kentucky.  As our Statement of Purpose describes, we do give special consideration to applications from rural areas, small towns and areas of special need.  But we welcome grant applications from agencies in any parts of Kentucky.
